Shaun Mildenhall - Solv Architects

I’m Shaun, founder of SOLV architects, a RIBA Chartered practice based in Winchester. Before establishing SOLV in 2007, I worked with a number of practices on a wide range of residential projects, gaining valuable experience in design, planning and construction.

I specialise in residential extensions, renovations and new homes across Winchester, Hampshire and the South East. I work closely with you from the very beginning of your project to understand how you live, what matters to you and what you want to achieve, creating designs that are both thoughtful and practical.

I believe a strong relationship between architect and client is central to a successful project. I remain your main point of contact throughout, working with builders, surveyors and consultants to guide you through the process and deliver a home that works beautifully for you and your budget.

More than a third of our client reviews come from clients who have worked with SOLV on more than one project - a reflection of the trust and relationship I aim to build.

With over 30 years of experience in residential architecture, I bring the knowledge and confidence to guide clients through every stage of the project.

Trusted by clients for more than one project

So what do you want from your architect? Someone who listens carefully to what you have in mind, hears what you have to say about the budget and comes back with a range of options that he (or she) explains in words of one syllable - and that don't blow the contingency before you start? The answer - Shaun Mildenhall – problem SOLV'd. Guy Pringle‍ ‍

I have had the pleasure of working with Shaun on two residential projects in Winchester, and I highly recommend him as an architect and project manager. Shaun takes the time to thoroughly understand the brief and is very good at communicating the key design and budgetary considerations from the outset. His creative approach and meticulous attention to detail ensure that design options are logical, will work in practical use and look great. Use of 3D images really helps in the early design stages and Shaun is great at making suggestions in a personable and non-judgemental way, putting you at ease. His extensive contacts and experience working with local authorities and contractors has proved invaluable. Thank you for your expertise and dedication.” John Bray

Shaun guided us through extending our house in 2014 when we knew very little about the building process or trades. He presented us with a range of excellent designs for the extension, helped us choose a builder, advised on fixtures, then project-managed the build brilliantly from start to finish. He was an invaluable source of expert - and calming - support throughout the process and beyond. We're still very grateful for all his work. D Adams

Shaun provided invaluable support and guidance during our extensive home renovation project. We would have been lost without his help. Shaun's architectural drawings are exceptionally detailed and comprehensive. R Webber

We used Solv Architects for our single story extension, (kitchen/utility and office) to the side of our property. Shaun presented us with several design options and pointed out the pros and cons for each. Once we had decided upon a design, he helped us with the planning process and quotations from 3-5 building companies.
We also asked Shaun to administer the building process by working with the builder to ensure work was done correctly before payments were made, including a snag-list period following completion of the build. Shaun was very professional throughout, with great communication at every stage of the build, also maintaining an excellent relationship with the builders. We are very happy with the results and the overall experience went very smoothly.
We highly recommend Solv Architects for this kind of work. A Bale

Shaun was an excellent Architect and team player for our Scout Hut regeneration project during 2014. As Chairman of the Scout Group, I approached Shaun to work for us to turn a battered old scout hut into a flexible community facility. We had 8 months to do it to qualify for a grant. His initial work proved critical to the success of the whole plan and saved at least 2 months of work. Shaun's collaboration throughout the project ensured that we remained on-time and on-budget. I would have no hesitation in recommending him. D Kesby
